The effectiveness of a preoperative multi-component non-pharmacologic preparation on post-tonsillectomy pain: A randomized controlled clinical trial
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Sep 12, 2020
Faramarzi M, Roosta S, Faramarzi A, et al. - Researchers conducted this randomized clinical trial study to determine which is more effective in the post-tonsillectomy pain; an informative booklet or a costly, time consuming, sophisticated, and multi-component preparation program. Study participants were randomly assigned into two groups ie, the booklet group (n = 120) and multi-component group (n = 121). In the booklet group, children and their parents only received an informative booklet as routine information preparation, whereas in the multi-component group, children and their parents received the multi-component preoperative preparation program in addition to receiving the same booklet. The authors observed no significant difference between the multi-component group and the booklet group regarding post-tonsillectomy pain. The data showed that a new concept that is a more cost-effective and concise booklet is as effective as expensive and sophisticated methods in post-tonsillectomy pain among children aged 9–12 years.
