The effect of vitamin D treatment on clinical and biochemical outcomes of primary aldosteronism

Clinical Endocrinology Mar 25, 2020

Ismail NA, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to assess the impact of vitamin D treatment on clinical and biochemical outcomes of primary aldosteronism (PA) individuals. Two hundred and forty hypertensive subjects were tested, 31 had positive ARR, and 17 newly identified PA patients were recruited following positive confirmatory test that was not subjected to definitive treatment. At baseline and 3 months of treatment with Bio‐D3 capsule, clinical parameter (blood pressure) and biochemical parameters (renal profile, plasma aldosterone concentration, plasma renin activity, serum calcium, vitamin D, intact parathyroid hormone, 24‐hour urinary calcium) have been measured. This investigation showed significant proportion of PA patients (nearly 70%) has vitamin D insufficiency. Treatment with vitamin D improves these interrelated parameters, indicating potential interplay between vitamin D, aldosterone, renal function and blood pressure.
