The effect of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block on postsurgical pain: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
BMC Anesthesiology May 06, 2020
Kendall MC, Alves L, Traill LL, et al. - By analyzing 13 randomized controlled trials assessing 679 patients across different surgical procedures, researchers performed a comparison between the analgesic efficacy of erector spinae plane block vs no block intervention among patients undergoing surgical procedures. The included studies were identified from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar electronic databases, explored from their inception through July 2019, via a quantitative systematic review. A significant effect, weighted mean difference of − 8.84, IV mg morphine equivalents, was demonstrated by the combined impact of erector spinae plane block on postoperative opioid use. The findings revealed no block related complications. Overall, experts gained moderate quality proof supporting the effectiveness of erector spinae plane block for improving postsurgical analgesia.
