The effect of tube ligature on the safety and efficacy of Ahmed glaucoma valve surgery
Journal of Glaucoma Dec 06, 2020
Al Owaifeer AM, Alobaida I, Alrefaie S, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective, matched case-control study to compare the safety and effectiveness of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) surgery with and without tube ligation. A review was conducted of patients who had AGV surgery with tube ligation between June 2015 and December 2017 (ligated AGV group). In the ligated AGV group, there were 49 eyes and in the nonligated AGV group, there were 98 eyes. Baseline features were comparable between groups except for the number of glaucoma medications. Findings suggested that tube ligation can be an effective measure in AGV surgery that decreases the rate of postoperative complications without affecting the surgery's success rate or visual outcomes.
