Reckley LK, et al. - Researchers attempted to illustrate an overview of published systematic reviews and meta-analyses of tonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy as used in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children and adults. Findings disclosed that tonsillectomy as an isolated treatment modality was rarely performed in pediatric patients with OSA. Nonetheless, tonsillectomy was commonly carried out in combination with adenoidectomy. Such a combination exhibited efficacy as the primary treatment option for a majority of the children. It was determined that tonsillectomy alone for OSA presented with a surprising success rate.
