The effect of suprainguinal fascia iliaca block on the recovery of patients after arthroscopic hip surgery
Paediatric Anaesthesia Jun 28, 2019
Alrayashi W, et al. - Researchers examined how the administration of suprainguinal fascia iliaca block as part of the analgesic regimen influences opioid consumption and pain experience in the perioperative time frame among patients undergoing hip surgery. They analyzed data of 716 patients; of these, 275 received a suprainguinal fascia iliaca block, and 441 did not have a block. The block group vs those not receiving a block had consumed significantly less total opioids. Pain scores were, however, not statistically different between the groups. The regional block resulted in a lower frequency of emesis in the PACU (0.7% vs 4.3%) and shorter PACU times (93 vs 108 minutes) among patients. These findings suggest suprainguinal fascia iliaca blocks as clinically effective in young patients undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery.
