The effect of statin use on mortality in systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases
The Journal of Rheumatology Dec 14, 2018
Jorge AM, et al. - Authors evaluated the potential survival benefit of statin use among patients with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARD) in a general population setting. They conducted an incident user cohort study using a UK general population database. In this general population–based study, findings suggested reduction of overall mortality with statin initiation in patients with SARD after adjusting for relevant determinates of CVD risk. Increased mortality was demonstrated by the statin initiators vs noninitiators because of confounding by indication when unmatched cohorts were compared.
