The effect of paravertebral ozone injection in the treatment of low back pain
Pain Practice Jun 27, 2019
Özcan C, et al. - Researchers examined patients undergoing paravertebral O3/O2 (ozone-oxygen) injections for low back pain regarding their pre- and post-treatment pain scores. A retrospective examination of 122 patients who underwent paravertebral ozone injections due to low back pain yielded 62 patients (12 male patients and 50 female patients; mean age 51.9 yrs) who met the study criteria. Treatment comprised injection of 15 Ug/ml 50 CC O3/O2 gas in the paravertebral space every seven days for six total sessions. The patients reported a mean duration of pain of 9.1 months (3-24). Outcomes support the efficacy and reliability of paravertebral O3/O2 gas treatment for lumbar disc herniation, radicular pain, and mechanical back pain due to low back pain.
