The effect of mobilization with movement on pain and function in patients with knee osteoarthritis: A randomized double-blind controlled trial
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Oct 23, 2019
Alkhawajah HA, et al. - Researchers investigated how mobilization with movement (MWM) influenced function and pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) vs sham MWM. At baseline, as well as immediately post-intervention and 2 days later, the evaluation of visual analogue scale for pain, the pressure pain threshold test, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, the timed up and go test, knee strength and knee range of motion (ROM), was done in adult patients (n = 40) having knee OA of grade II and above who were assigned to receive either MWM treatment or sham MWM. Findings revealed superior benefits of MWM over sham MWM on local and widespread pain, physical function (walking), knee flexion and extension muscle strength and knee flexion ROM for at least 2 days in this patient population.
