The effect of intra-articular cocktail versus femoral nerve block for patients undergoing hip arthroscopy

Childs S, et al. – In patients undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery, intra–articular blockade and femoral nerve block were compared in terms of clinical efficacy and complication rate as assessed by postoperative falls and development of peripheral neuritis. Findings demonstrated an association of preoperative femoral nerve blocks with attenuated immediate postoperative pain, whereas, intraoperative intra–articular anesthetic injections offered effective postoperative pain control and significantly reduced rates of postoperative falls and iatrogenic peripheral neuritis.
