The effect of influenza virus infection on pregnancy outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Mar 03, 2021
Wang R, Yan W, Du M, et al. - For neonatal mortality and morbidity, adverse pregnancy outcomes are risk factors. While some studies have reported notable correlations between influenza and adverse pregnancy outcomes, the findings are in contrast to other studies. Researchers conducted this meta-analysis with the aim to determine how influenza infection affects pregnancy outcomes. Searching PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science, they identified a total of 17 studies involving 2,351,204 participants for inclusion. Findings revealed correlation of influenza virus infection with an elevated risk of stillbirth, but uncertainty remains regarding its effect on preterm birth, fetal death, SGA and LBW.
