The effect of glucocorticoids on bone mineral density in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized, controlled trials
Bone Jun 21, 2018
Blavnsfeldt AB, et al. - Authors evaluated the impact of prednisolone/prednisone on bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) analyzed in randomized, controlled trials. Findings suggested that there was no difference in change in BMD between patients treated with prednisone/prednisolone vs placebo in patients with early and active RA. This indicated that their adverse effects on bone remodeling could be counterbalanced by the suppression of inflammation by glucocorticoids at least through 24-months.
