The effect of glucagon-like peptide 1 and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists on energy expenditure: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Jun 04, 2018
Maciel MG, et al. - Authors conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the impact of glucacon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) or GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) on energy expenditure (EE) in adults. They searched PubMed, Science Direct and Web of Science for clinical trials examining the effect of GLP-1 or GLP-1RA on EE in adults. Results of this study suggested that GLP-1 had no short-term effect on resting EE (REE) but could decrease diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT). It was observed in the findings that the GLP-1RA exenatide and liraglutide had a neutral effect on REE, in spite of the fact that it was impractical to rule out an increase in REE following prolonged treatment.
