The effect of donor and recipient race on outcomes of assisted reproduction
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Sep 17, 2020
Liu Y, Hipp HS, Nagy ZP, et al. - Researchers examined if and how the race of female oocyte donors and recipients associate with live birth rates following vitrified donor oocyte assisted reproductive technologies (ART). In this retrospective study of 327 oocyte donors and 899 recipients who underwent 1,601 embryo transfer cycles (2008-2015), similar racial profile of the donors and recipients was reported: 73% White, 13% Black, 4% Hispanic, 8% Asian, and 2% Other. Outcomes suggest a lower probability of live birth following ART among Black female recipients even when using vitrified oocytes from healthy donors. Utilization of vitrified oocytes from Hispanic donors among female recipients was correlated with higher probability of live birth; this was noted regardless of their own race.
