The effect of donor and recipient race on outcomes of assisted reproduction

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Oct 11, 2020

Liu Y, Hipp HS, Nagy ZP, et al. - Researchers investigated how the race of female oocyte donors and recipients associates with live birth rates following vitrified donor oocyte assisted reproductive technologies. They conducted a retrospective study at a single, private fertility clinic including 327 oocyte donors and 899 recipients who underwent 1,601 embryo transfer cycles (2008–2015). Medical records were assessed for self-reported race of the donor and recipient. Observations suggest a lower probability of live birth following assisted reproductive technology among Black female recipients, even when using vitrified oocytes from healthy donors. Use of vitrified oocytes from Hispanic donors was associated with a higher probability of live birth among female recipients; this was noted regardless of recipients' own race.
