The effect of different adiposity factors on insulin resistance in obese children and adolescents

Clinical Endocrinology Feb 10, 2021

Niu Y, Zhao X, He H, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is a connection between insulin resistance (IR) with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), body fat mass (BFM), and body fat percentage (BFP) in obese children and adolescents. In total, 224 simple obese children were involved in this research, involving 150 boys and 74 girls, aged 3‐18 who were seen in the clinical nutrition outpatient of Xinhua Hospital from September 2012 to December 2019. In obese children and adolescents, overall adipose tissue, particularly abdominal adipose tissue, is a strong marker of inducing IR. Moreover, in obese individuals with IR, more focus should be given to WC and BFM than BMI.
