The effect of continuity of care on the incidence of end-stage renal disease in patients with newly detected type 2 diabetic nephropathy: A retrospective cohort study
BMC Nephrology Jun 09, 2018
Jang YJ, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers used the administrative National Health Insurance claims data to investigate if continuity of care (COC) is associated with the incidence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) among patients with diabetic nephropathy. In these subjects, the individual- and hospital-level factors related to the incidence of ESRD were also determined. Using Cox proportional hazards models, survival analysis was carried out. In association with higher COC, a lower risk of ESRD was observed among patients with diabetic renal complication. In these subjects, continuous follow-up should be encouraged to prevent ESRD. Moreover, in patients with disabilities and those in the lowest income level, the focus should be laid on disparities in health outcomes.
