The effect of chair-based pedal exercises for older people admitted to an acute hospital compared to standard care: A feasibility study

McGowan T, et al. - Feasibility of using chair-based pedal exercisers on acute medical wards for older people was assessed herein, along with any possible impact on muscle strength, mobility and time spent physically active. Non-feasibility of pedal exercises with minimal supervision was demonstrated when employed as a single intervention to improve physical activity in older people admitted to hospital. Also, there may be a role for it as part of a multifaceted strategy to improve physical activity in hospital.
