The effect of cardiac rehabilitation attendance on sexual activity outcomes in cardiovascular disease patients: A systematic review
Canadian Journal of Cardiology Dec 11, 2018
Boothby CA, et al. - Researchers analyzed the impact of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) attendance on sexual activity (SA) outcomes in adults with cardiovascular disease (CVD). They performed a systematic review of original studies that compared attendance with CR vs no attendance with CR in adults with CVD that also reported on SA outcomes. These studies were identified from electronic databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, CINAHL). Generally, equivocal or positive impact of CR on SA outcomes was reported. With regard to improving sexual functioning and frequency, CR showed some promise. Mixed results were obtained as far as sexual resumption and satisfaction were concerned. Overall, with regard to a consistent improvement in sexual outcomes with CR, no certainty was established.
