The effect of anesthesia type on outcomes in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Oct 07, 2020
Abbett SK, Urman RD, Resor CD, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective, propensity-matched, cohort study investigating the postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) either under general anesthesia (GA) or monitored anesthesia care (MAC) as the primary anesthetic. After propensity score matching, they assessed 559 patients who underwent a TAVR procedure under GA or MAC and identified similar 30-day mortality and complications, but shorter hospital length of stay, among patients undergoing TAVR under MAC than those undergoing TAVR under GA.
