The dynamics of the metabolism of acetate and bicarbonate associated with use of hemodialysates in the ABChD trial: A phase IV, prospective, single center, single blind, randomized, cross-over, two week investigation
BMC Nephrology Sep 02, 2017
Smith WB, et al. – The metabolism of acetate with use of two different acid buffer concentrates was examined, as well as, experts sought to delineate if it affected blood bicarbonate concentrations in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Based on the data obtained, a small fraction of acetate was delivered to HD patients with use of NaturaLyte and GranuFlo acid buffers. An investigation noticed rapid metabolization and clearance of the majority of acetate received from the circulation. Moreover, blood bicarbonate concentrations appeared to be determined mainly by the prescribed concentration of bicarbonate.
