Davidson B, et al. - The diagnostic role of PTEN and ARID1A in effusion cytology was analyzed. It was observed that in effusion pathology, loss of PTEN and ARID1A expression was highly specific for malignancy. No information regarding the organ of origin was obtained by the loss of PTEN, however, absence of ARID1A should raise suspicion of an ovarian primary.
