The diagnostic performance of a simplified blood test (SteatoTest-2) for the prediction of liver steatosis
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Feb 09, 2019
Poynard T, et al. - Using the noninferiority test (0.10 margin) and the Lin concordance coefficient, researchers have developed a new SteatoTest-2, which is not inferior to the first-generation reference SteatoTest, but which does not include BMI or bilirubin, since these two components can increase the variability of the test due to weight and height assessment and in the case of Gilbert syndrome or hemolysis. For test construction and validation, 5 different subsets of 2997 patients with biopsies were assessed, and 4 evaluated the prevalence of steatosis in target populations with increasing risks of steatosis. Findings revealed that areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the SteatoTest-2 were not less than the reference test. The results obtained from this retrospective analysis of prospective studies indicate that the SteatoTest-2 is simpler and noninferior to the first-generation SteatoTest for the diagnosis of steatosis, without BMI and bilirubin limitations.
