The development of hypothalamic obesity in craniopharyngioma patients: A risk factor analysis in a well-defined cohort
Pediatric Blood & Cancer Jan 11, 2018
van Iersel L, et al. - This study was designed in order to evaluate the impact of degree of resection on the development of hypothalamic obesity (HO), event-free survival (EFS), and neuroendocrine sequelae in patients treated for craniopharyngioma (CP). The occurrence of HO was less frequent after partial resection (PR) than after gross total resection (GTR). However, it was not always possible for PR to prevent the development of morbid obesity in patients with obesity at diagnosis. It was noted that PR reduced the occurrence of panhypopituitarism. All these factors ought to be taken into account for the development of a treatment algorithm.
