The curvilinear relationship of early-life adversity and successful aging: The mediating role of mental health
Aging and Mental Health May 04, 2019
Höltge J, et al. - Researchers investigated how early-life adversity (ELA) influences successful aging. and if mental and physical health can explain this relationship. They assessed 270 individuals (Mage = 66.82 years, 71.5% female) for socio-demographics, ELA, individual quality of life, and mental and physical health. Observations revealed a correlation of a moderate amount of ELA with the highest level of individual quality of life (ie successful aging). Additionally, mental health was noted playing a significant mediating role in this relationship. Findings thereby suggest benefits of some amount of ELA in successful aging.
