The correlation between plasma ferritin level and gestational diabetes mellitus and its impact on fetal macrosomia
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Mar 29, 2018
Wang Z, et al. - The goal of this research was to assess the tie-up between plasma iron levels and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), along with its effect on macrosomia. Gravidas with a high level of ferritin were possibly prone to GDM. It was determined that high level of ferritin could serve as an independent risk factor for macrosomia outcome. Hence, the negative effect of iron supplementation in non-anemia pregnant women could be significant. Findings displayed that pre-pregnant overweight or obesity, a high concentration of ferritin, along with abnormal levels of FPG, 1h-PG and 2h-PG served as the risk links with macrosomia outcome.
