The correlation between atrial fibrillation and prognosis and hemorrhagic transformation
European Neurology Nov 28, 2019
Dang H, et al. - Researchers examined the link between atrial fibrillation (AF) and hemorrhagic transformation (HT) and prognosis in patients (n = 184) diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke and received thrombolysis from January 2016 to October 2017. They classified the patients into HT and non-HT groups, depending on the imaging findings during hospitalization. There were 40 patients in the HT group. In terms of the level of age, hyperlipidemia, AF, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and the application of anticoagulants, they found a significant difference between the two groups at baseline. Following 3 and 6 months of observation, only NIHSS was identified to be related to prognosis instead of AF, HT, and anticoagulants. Meanwhile, the tendency to be older, higher NIHSS score and less hyperlipidemia were noted in patients with AF. Findings revealed no significant correlation between AF and prognosis, although there was some certainly associated with HT. That was, the prognosis with AF had a similar response trend vs the non-AF.
