The complex association between metabolic syndrome and male hypogonadism
Metabolism Apr 18, 2018
Dimopoulou C, et al. - The correlation between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and male hypogonadism was assessed by researchers. They also sought to illustrate the epidemiological data on the co-existence of the 2 comorbidities, examine the underlying pathophysiology and appraise the effects of testosterone supplementation therapy (TTh) and lifestyle modifications on MetS and body composition in men. A high prevalence of MetS and male hypogonadism was reported in the general population. Both appeared to frequently co-exist, for instance, in males with diabetes. Evidence was yielded for a favorable effect of testosterone supplementation in testosterone deficient men with MetS and/or diabetes mellitus.
