The clinical performance of midline catheters – an observational study
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Dec 14, 2019
Madsen EB, et al. - By performing a prospective, observational quality control study, researchers assessed the clinical performance of the Powerglide Pro midline catheter, focusing on dwell time, the incidence of premature catheter removal, causes of catheter removal and the dwell time and incidence rates of predefined subgroups denoting potential effect modifiers. In 70 patients, 100 midline catheters were inserted. Of these, 98 were accessible to follow-up. Findings revealed 8 days to be the median dwell time of the midline catheters, with substantial variation. The incidence of premature catheter removal was estimated to be 71.8/1000 catheter days. Premature elimination of the majority of midline catheters was reported.
