The clinical characteristics and prognostic nomogram for head and neck cancer patients with bone metastasis
Journal of Oncology Sep 30, 2021
Chi C, Fan Z, Yang B, et al. - This study created and validated a nomogram to predict overall survival in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) who had bone metastasis (BM). The prognostic nomogram is highly accurate and useful for estimating survival and making individualized treatment options.
In total, 326 patients with BM from HNC were obtained from the SEER database.
Age, primary site, lung metastasis, and chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors for HNC patients with BM.
In the training group, the area under the curve for predicting overall survival at 12, 24, and 36 months was 0.768, 0.747, and 0.723, respectively, whereas, in the validation group, it was 0.729, 0.723, and 0.669.
The anticipated and actual values for overall survival were in good agreement, according to the calibration curves.
The decision curve analysis also revealed that this predictive nomogram model has broad clinical use.
