The characteristics of acute necrotizing pancreatitis in different age stages: An MRI study
European Journal of Radiology Nov 21, 2019
Yang DD, Zuo HD, Wu CQ, et al. - MRI of 716 individuals with acute pancreatitis was retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the incidence and features of acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) in order to investigate the features of ANP in various age stages and their relationships with the clinical outcomes using MRI. In the old group, the predominance of ANP was the highest. A greater risk of combined necrosis was shown by the individuals in the middle-age and the old groups and in comparison with young individuals, old people more often had extensive extrapancreatic involvement, nevertheless, pancreatic necrosis alone was more prevalent in young individuals. These features of ANP were notably bound up with clinical outcomes. Thus, various subtypes of ANP have distinct outcomes. Moreover, more significantly, age demands to be acknowledged as a factor of specific concern in the development of ANP.
