The characteristics and risk factors of hepatocellular carcinoma in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease without cirrhosis
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Oct 16, 2019
Tobari M, Hashimoto E, Taniai M, et al. - In patients who had non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) without cirrhosis, researchers assessed the features of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). For this investigation, NAFLD patients were prospectively followed at the University hospital. Findings revealed that there have been 48 patients with non-cirrhotic HCC and 71 patients with cirrhotic HCC. According to results, important risk factors for HCC were male gender, alcohol consumption, and the FIB4-index in patients with non-cirrhotic NAFLD. Only the tumor stage affected the recurrence and survival of HCC. Alcohol consumption should be regarded as a modifiable risk factor for HCC.
