The changing sella: Internal carotid artery shift during transsphenoidal pituitary surgery
Pituitary Aug 31, 2017
Serra C, et al. – This study was carried out to assess alterations in intercarotid distance (ICD) at different levels of the internal carotid artery (ICA) during and after TSS using high definition intraoperative MRI (3T–iMRI). Researchers illustrated a uniform narrowing in intercarotid distance at different levels of the ICA during and after transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) adenoma resection. Remarkably, surgeons should be aware of this change since it determines the width of the surgical corridor and can thus affect the ease of surgery.
