The burden of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) among adults during flu season; an underestimated pathology
Journal of Hospital Infection Apr 09, 2018
Kestler M, et al. - The authors aimed to determine the clinical characteristics of RSV in adult patients with respiratory manifestations during a regular influenza season. They identified RSV to be a major cause of moderate to severe respiratory infection during the influenza season. Nosocomial or health care–related acquisition was noted frequently, and mortality was markedly higher than with influenza virus infection. They recommended using the rapid molecular test as a first-step diagnostic technique to ensure that isolation measures are implemented and spread is prevented.
