The burden of injuries in Mexico: Secondary data analysis from the Global Burden of Disease Study, 1990 to 2019
Injury Feb 17, 2021
Dávila-Cervantes CA, et al. - In Mexico, injuries have been identified as a major cause of premature mortality and short-term and long-term disability. From the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study, researchers here presented findings on injuries in Mexico at a national and subnational scale from 1990 to 2019. Between 1990 and 2019, the injury burden decreased in Mexico. However, this trend shifted since 2007 and the burden began to rise. The highest burden of disease was observed in correlation with interpersonal violence, road injuries, falls, and self-harm for both males and females. These results may aid in attaining better insight regarding the trends and variation of injury burden, which is critical to good health system planning.
