The burden of common infections in children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus: A Pediatric Health Information System study
Pediatric Diabetes Nov 16, 2017
Korbel L, et al. - This study entailed the examination of the number of pediatric and adolescent patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) seeking medical treatment for the management of infection. Additionally, they gauged its socioeconomic impact. It was determined that children and adolescents with type 1 and type 2 DM commonly presented to the Emergency Department (ED) and required hospitalization for infection evaluation and management. Encounters with infection were responsible for a large proportion of a growing economic burden on the United States health-care system. With the growth of the prevalence of DM, this burden could become even more significant. Cost-effective strategies were warranted for the prevention of infection in pediatric patients with DM.
