The best cardiovascular risk calculator to predict carotid plaques in rheumatoid arthritis patients
Clinical Rheumatology Jul 10, 2018
Wah-Suarez MI, et al. - In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients without clinical manifestations, authors assessed which risk calculator correlates best with carotid ultrasound (US) findings, specifically carotid plaque (CP) and carotid intima-media thickness. In order to detect the cardiovascular risk, RA patients should be comprehensively evaluated. A routine recommendation of carotid US was suggested to detect subclinical atherosclerosis in RA patients. To identify patients with a low and intermediate cardiovascular risk (CVR) to detect subclinical atherosclerosis earlier and personalize therapy, there was a possibility of a lower cutoff point in CVR scales to be necessary.
