The balance between short-term and long-term outcomes of bilateral internal thoracic artery skeletonization in coronary artery bypass surgery: A propensity-matched cohort study
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Mar 06, 2018
Ngu JMC, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of the balance between early benefits and long-term outcomes of bilateral internal thoracic artery skeletonization or non-skeletonization in coronary artery bypass surgery. They also assessed if differences in outcomes were affected by other patient risk factors. In patients undergoing bilateral internal thoracic arteries (BITAs), skeletonization resulted in better perioperative outcomes and comparable cardiac outcomes. The greatest benefit was observed in men and patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
