The asthma-rhinitis multimorbidity is associated with IgE polysensitization in adolescents and adults

Allergy Apr 24, 2018

Siroux V, et al. - In adults and adolescents, IgE sensitization patterns towards a broad panel of aeroallergen components were determined, especially in individuals with asthma and rhinitis multimorbidity, using samples from the French EGEA study and the Swedish population-based birth cohort BAMSE. A negative binomial model was used. Researchers identified groups representing 4 phenotypes: no asthma-no rhinitis (A-R-), asthma alone (A+R-), rhinitis alone (A-R+) and asthma-rhinitis (A+R+). The A+R+ phenotype combined the sensitization pattern of both the A-R+ and A+R- phenotypes. Generalizability of this multimorbid polysensitized phenotype to various ages and allergenic environments was apparent. This phenotype could be related to specific mechanisms.
