The association of pretreatment serum albumin with outcomes in bladder cancer: A meta-analysis
OncoTargets and Therapy Jun 21, 2018
Li J, et al. - Given many recent reports have shown that pretreatment serum albumin can be closely associated with the prognosis of patients with bladder cancer (BC), researchers investigated the prognostic significance of pretreatment serum albumin in BC patients by analyzing data from relevant studies identified from PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. The meta-analysis included a total of 16 studies involving 13,917 patients. The evaluation of the intensity of association was done by pooling hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs. For all statistical analyses, STATA 12.0 was used. Among BC patients, a poor long-term prognosis and increased risks of postoperative complication and mortality were observed in those having a lower pretreatment serum albumin level. Furthermore, a lower pretreatment serum albumin level can be applied to risk stratification and individualized therapy in BC patients.
