The association of femoroacetabular impingement and delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC): A population-based study
Arthritis Care & Research Nov 22, 2017
Guo Y, et al. - Researchers undertook this investigation to assess the link between FAI and dGEMRIC T1 relaxation values (RV), to examine if there exists any association of subtypes of FAI (cam, pincer, mixed) with region-specific dGEMRIC T1 RVs. Reduced T1 RVs were seen in subjects with mixed FAI vs other FAI subtypes. There was no substantial cartilage degeneration in pure cam or pincer FAI compared to non-FAI hips. As concluded, the beginning of cartilage degeneration is not suggested by the presence of cam or pincer impingements alone. In contrast, the presence of both FAI subtypes is a risk factor for early cartilage damage.
