The association of early post-resuscitation hypotension with discharge survival following targeted temperature management for pediatric in-hospital cardiac arrest
Resuscitation Jun 13, 2019
Topjian AA, et al. - Researchers examined how survival to discharge is influenced by post-cardiac arrest hypotension during targeted temperature management following in-hospital cardiac arrest via performing secondary analysis of therapeutic hypothermia after pediatric cardiac arrest in-hospital trial. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) was not received by 142 (47%) patients and was received by 175 (53%) patients among 299 children. Systolic hypotension was reported in 42 of 142 (29.6%) non-ECMO patients and arterial hypotension was reported in 23 of 157 (14.7%) ECMO patients. Systolic hypotension within 6 h of temperature intervention was associated with lower odds of discharge survival among patients not treated with ECMO. In patients treated with ECMO, survival to discharge was not identified to be correlated to blood pressure groups.
