The association between timing of routine preoperative blood testing and a composite of 30-day postoperative morbidity and mortality
Anesthesia & Analgesia Sep 25, 2018
Ruetzler K, et al. - Preoperative data were obtained from 2,320,920 subjects in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program treated between 2005 and 2012 to test the premise that longer periods between preoperative laboratory testing and surgery correlate with higher chances of having a composite of 30-day morbidity and mortality. Risk of 30-day morbidity and mortality was not different with blood testing up to 2 months before surgery, implying that it is of little value to retest patients shortly before surgery in patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I and II.
