The association between threatened preterm labour and perinatal outcomes at term: A population‐based cohort study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dec 06, 2020
Gagnon LC, Allen VM, Crane JM, et al. - Utilizing data from the Nova Scotia Atlee Perinatal Database, researchers conducted this population‐based cohort study to determine the connection between threatened preterm labour (TPTL) and perinatal outcomes of infants born at term. They analyzed all non‐anomalous, singleton pregnancies ≥ 37 weeks of gestation without antepartum haemorrhage between 1988 and 2019. Of 256,599 term deliveries meeting the inclusion requirements, 2278 (0.9%) involved TPTL. Although the prevalence of TPTL in term deliveries is low, there is an increased risk of adverse perinatal outcomes for affected pregnancies. For the management of pregnancies affected by TPTL, increased fetal surveillance should be considered.
