The association between socio-economic status and diabetes care and outcome in children with diabetes type 1 in Germany: The DIAS study (diabetes and social disparities)
Pediatric Diabetes Mar 29, 2019
Mönkemöller K, et al. - In German children and adolescents, researchers assessed the correlation between socioeconomic status (SES) and diabetes outcomes using multivariable regression models. From June 2013 until June 2014, a total of 1,829 subjects < 18 years old with type 1 diabetes mellitus were included from 13 German diabetes centers. In Germany, low SES was related to unfavorable diabetes outcomes despite free health care. Findings suggested that the poorer diabetes outcomes of children with diabetes were attributed to their migration status and could be partly explained by low SES. In children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, both factors must become part of targeted diabetes care.
