The association between race and 5-year survival in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma: A cohort study
Urology Dec 16, 2020
Jivanji D, Jamieson S, Mallory C, et al. - Using the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database, researchers investigated whether there exists a relationship between race and 5-year cause-specific survival in patients suffering from clear cell renal cell carcinoma. This study included 8,421 participants. Age, gender, insurance, marital status, and tumor stage at diagnosis were included as covariates. Findings revealed that no link was identified between race and 5-year cause-specific survival in patients suffering from clear cell renal cell carcinoma. However, literature showed that Blacks with RCC exhibited inferior overall survival. The observations indicate that cause-specific factors such as renal cell carcinoma may not drive survival disparities, which are rather driven by social determinants of health which disproportionality impact Black patients.
