The association between pulsatile cardiopulmonary bypass and acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery: A before-and-after study
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Jul 10, 2019
Coulson TG, et al. - Researchers performed this uncontrolled, retrospective before-and-after investigation in a single tertiary hospital to determine the link between pulsatile perfusion and cardiac surgery-related acute kidney injury among patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (n=2,489). They gathered data for pulsatile as well as nonpulsatile perfusion. Findings revealed no link between kidney injury and pulsatile perfusion and suggested the possibility of either no link between pulsatile perfusion and decreased kidney injury or of the difference being extremely small.
