The association between pre-operative sepsis and 30-day mortality in hip fracture patients: A cohort study
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Jun 14, 2018
Morch SS, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers examined the link between pre-operative sepsis and 30-day mortality after hip fracture surgery by analyzing data for patients who underwent hip fracture surgery in the Capital Region of Denmark in 2014. They also assessed the length of hospital stay and admission to intensive care unit for these subjects. The criteria for pre-operative sepsis was fulfilled by a total of 144 (7.6%) of the hip fracture patients. Findings demonstrated that among hip fracture patients, an increased length of hospital stay and increased mortality were reported in relation to the presence of pre-operative sepsis and, hence, more intensive surveillance and timely treatment should be ensured in hip fracture patients with pre-operative sepsis.
