The association between perioperative embolization of hypogastric arteries and type II endoleaks after endovascular aortic aneurysm repair
Journal of Vascular Surgery Jul 10, 2020
Meshii K, Sugimoto M, Niimi K, et al. - Researchers retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent elective endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) in order to ascertain if hypogastric embolization is linked with type II endoleaks (T2ELs) at 12 months after EVAR. Among 375 enrolled patients with postoperative computed tomography angiography at 12 months, death of 40 patients, and reinterventions in 50 patients were reported during the median follow-up of 59.5 months (interquartile range, 19-126 months). The multivariate analysis revealed T2EL to be significantly associated with female gender, patent inferior mesenteric artery, and presence of five or more patent lumbar arteries but not with hypogastric embolization. In addition, there was significant correlation of the Excluder (W. L. Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, Ariz) endograft with T2EL compared with the Zenith (Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind) endograft. Findings thereby suggest no significant correlation between hypogastric embolization and T2EL. .
