The association between occupational asbestos exposure with the risk of incidence and mortality from prostate cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Prostate Cancer & Prostatic Diseases Aug 23, 2021
Godono A, Clari M, Franco N, et al. - This systematic review and meta-analysis show that men who have been exposed to asbestos at work have prostate cancer (PCa) incidence and mortality rates comparable to the general population. Higher standardized mortality ratios (SMR) or standardized incidence ratios (SIR) appear to be related to temporal and geographical variables.
There were 65 articles in total, with 68 cohorts.
PCa incidence and mortality were not found to be significantly linked to occupational asbestos exposure.
The prevalence of PCa was higher among workers hired after 1960.
Pooled SIR was higher in European and UK cohorts. In North American cohorts, mortality was higher.
SIRs or SMRs appeared to be elevated in studies of lower methodological quality.
